The general
immigration requirements in Costa Rica that apply to all residence
regimes in Costa Rica are the following:
GENERAL
REQUIREMENTS:
All residences can be presented in Costa Rica before the Immigration
Directorate or at a Costa Rican Consulate in the country of
citizenship or in the country of legal residence of the applicant.
If there is no Costa Rican Consulate in these countries, the
presentation can be made at any consulate. Applications presented at
Consulates or in Costa Rica must be delivered personally or through
a third party who has been granted a Special Power of Attorney.
If the residence
application is made from Costa Rica, proof of a bank statement in
favor of the Government must be presented for the sum of US$200 (two
hundred dollars, its equivalent in colones) in the account 000000 of
the Bank of Costa Rica, for change immigration category.
The following are requirements applicable to all immigration regimes
in Costa Rica:
Residency
application signed by the applicant duly authenticated by a lawyer
in Costa Rica.
Affiliation Form duly filled out. Our team will guide you in the
preparation of the form.
Birth certificate: For the application of all types of residence,
the presentation of a birth certificate of each one of the
applicants is required, if there are dependents, a birth certificate
of the dependents is required. This document must be issued by the
corresponding authorities in the place of birth. Presented before
the Secretary of State or the competent authority and finally before
the Consulate of Costa Rica in the issuing country.
If there is
sufficient reason to justify the impossibility of presenting this
requirement, it is possible to present an affidavit that replaces it,
also arguing what is the proof of the impossibility.
If there are no
consular relations with the country of origin, the process can be
carried out via a third country.
Criminal Record
Certificate: A CLEAN criminal record certificate is required for
both the applicant and each dependent over the age of fifteen to be
included in the application.
This document
must be issued by the corresponding authorities in the place of
birth. Presented before the Secretary of State or the competent
authority and finally before the Consulate of Costa Rica in the
issuing country. This document is valid for six months unless the
document expressly indicates its expiration in a time greater or
less than this term. If there is sufficient reason to justify the
impossibility of presenting this requirement, it is possible to
present an affidavit that replaces it, also arguing what is the
justification for the impossibility. If there are no consular
relations with the country of origin, the process can be carried out
via a third country..
Marriage
Certificate: If the person wishes to cover their spouse as a
dependent, they must present a marriage certificate. This document
must be issued by the corresponding authorities in the place of
birth. Presented before the Secretary of State or the competent
authority and finally before the Consulate of Costa Rica in the
issuing country.
Taking
fingerprints: To take fingerprints it is necessary to appear in
Costa Rica, in the Police file which is located in front of the
South Shopping Center, this taking is done personally. In all cases
our staff is responsible for facilitating the fingerprinting for our
clients.
Consular
Registration: It is necessary for all applicants to make a consular
registration at the Consulate of their country in Costa Rica. People
who do not have consular representation in Costa Rica are exempt
from this requirement.
Four passport size photographs must be provided.
Certified copy of
all the pages of the passport: All applicants, including minors,
must comply with this requirement, in addition, the first page of
the passport must be duly translated into Spanish, by an official
translator or by a lawyer with knowledge of the language.
Proof of Bank
Deposit for US$50 (fifty US dollars) or its equivalent in colones in
the Banco de Costa Rica account number 242480-0, for residence
application concept.
Translation: Any
document that is in a language other than Spanish must be
accompanied by its respective translation into Spanish, made by an
official translator. |
